Maggie’s Merseyside (North West)

Maggie’s Merseyside provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friends. It is one of a growing network of the Maggie’s charity’s centres across the UK, online and abroad.

The Maggies Merseyside Centre, based next to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre on the Wirral, opened in July 2014. It provides free support and advice services to those affected by cancer including practical, financial and benefits advice, psychological support, therapeutic activities, cancer specific groups, courses on managing stress, survivorship and health behaviours. These services are delivered by cancer support specialists, a clinical psychologist, benefits advisers, a nutritionist and other specialist providers.

When the ADWC Trustees visited the Centre shortly after its opening it was apparent that there was an urgent need to provide furniture for the interior: funding had been exhausted and they were using borrowed and donated furniture which was uncomfortable and neither inviting nor fit for purpose.

ADWC was delighted to award a grant of £7,500 to fund the purchase of sofas, chairs, lamps and cushions to provide comfort for the visitors and staff and help create a warm, welcoming and comfortable environment (intentionally non-clinical) for the Centre’s visitors (9,000 in its first 12 months).
