Wirral Youth Zone (Major)

In 2016 ADWC agreed to become a Founder Patron of a new Wirral Youth Zone being built by the pioneering charity On Side in Birkenhead, an area of high deprivation. Subsequently named ‘The Hive’ the youth zone opened in April 2017 and offers young people aged 8-19 a quality, safe and affordable place to go.

It provides up to 20 different activities per session including drumming workshops, street dance, fashion design, skateboarding, singing and musical workshops, hair and stage make-up workshops and wheelchair rugby. All the activities are designed to help the young people raise their aspirations, build their self-esteem and develop transferable life skills.

In addition to the impressive range of activities, The Hive also offers support through experienced and dedicated youth workers who are available to help young people tackle some of the difficult issues they might be facing.

The Hive has been a phenomenal success in terms of its impact and popularity with its beneficiaries (5,800 members and 41,131 visits by October 2017). ADWC feel privileged to have been involved in supporting this project and its funding (totalling £75,000) will continue until the end of 2018.
