Dementia UK (Major)

In 2016 ADWC awarded a grant of £50,000 over two years to Dementia UK to help fund the delivery of a new hospital-based Admiral nurse service in South Cheshire providing families affected by dementia with specialist nursing support.

The support provided will include providing carers with the necessary skills and knowledge to help them better understand dementia and its effects and working closely with other healthcare professionals so that families get the right support at the right time.
A recent report by Dementia UK shows that in areas of the UK where Dementia UK’s admiral nursing service is available there is significant improved quality of life for families affected by dementia. In addition the need for care and support from medical professionals for both the person with dementia and their carer is reduced and care home placements are delayed.
